Thematic

Visiting Vigan City during the Fiesta of the Conversion of St. Paul feels like stepping into a living story of faith, culture, and joy. The historic streets become more alive than ever, filled with colorful decorations, smiling faces, and the sound of music echoing through the old Spanish houses. As someone from Ilocos Sur, I felt proud seeing how our city beautifully preserves tradition while welcoming visitors with warmth and excitement. The celebration is not just an event but a reflection of the deep devotion and unity of the people.

One of the most unforgettable parts of the fiesta is the grand procession honoring St. Paul. Families gather along the streets, praying and watching as the image of the saint passes by, surrounded by flowers and lights. It is touching to witness how young and old come together in faith. The atmosphere feels peaceful yet festive, showing how religion remains an important part of the community’s life.
Aside from the religious activities, the fiesta is also filled with fun and entertainment. There are street dances, cultural performances, and food stalls offering local delicacies like empanada, bagnet, and longganisa. Tourists and locals enjoy taking photos near Calle Crisologo, where the old world charm blends perfectly with the lively celebration. Every corner of the city seems to tell a story of history and happiness.

Overall, the Vigan City Fiesta of the Conversion of St. Paul is more than a celebration. It is an experience that touches the heart and excites the senses. It shows the strong faith, rich culture, and warm hospitality of the Ilocano people. For anyone who wants to witness tradition, devotion, and joy in one beautiful place, celebrating this fiesta in Vigan City is truly unforgettable.

Reflection on ICT Grade 10 Quarter 3

During the third quarter of ICT Grade 10, I learned about HTML tags and how they are used to create simple web pages. At first, HTML looked confusing because of the many symbols like < >, but as the lessons continued, I understood that each tag has a purpose. I learned basic tags such as <html>, <head>, <title>, <body>, <p>, and <h1> to <h6>. These tags helped me organize content and make a webpage readable and structured.

One of the most interesting parts of this quarter was creating our own basic webpage. It felt amazing to see text appear on the screen just by typing code. I realized that websites are not magic but are built carefully using codes like HTML. I also learned that if one tag is missing or not closed properly, the whole page can change or not work correctly, which taught me to be more careful and patient.

This quarter helped me improve my problem-solving skills because I had to fix errors in my codes. It also made me more interested in technology and web design. I now understand that HTML is the foundation of many websites and an important skill in today’s digital world.
Overall, learning HTML tags was challenging but fun. It gave me new knowledge and confidence in using computers not just for games or social media but also for creating something useful. This experience inspired me to learn more about programming in the future.

Jose Rizal

Jose Rizal, the Face of the Philippines

Jose Rizal is often called the face of the Philippines because his life and works represent the spirit, intelligence, and love for freedom of the Filipino people. He was not only a national hero but also a writer, doctor, and reformist who used his talents to fight injustice during the Spanish colonial period. Through his courage and wisdom, Rizal awakened the patriotism of Filipinos and inspired them to seek change peacefully.
One of Rizal’s greatest contributions was his novels Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo. These books exposed the abuses of Spanish officials and friars, showing the suffering of ordinary Filipinos. Instead of using violence, Rizal chose words as his weapon to open the eyes of the people. His writings helped Filipinos realize their rights and the importance of standing up against oppression.

Rizal’s love for the country was also shown through his sacrifices. Even though he lived abroad for many years, he never forgot the Philippines. He worked hard to improve education, promote equality, and encourage national identity. In the end, he was executed by the Spanish government in 1896, but his death only strengthened the Filipino desire for independence.
Today, Jose Rizal remains the face of the Philippines because his values continue to guide the nation. He symbolizes intelligence, courage, and peaceful resistance. His life reminds Filipinos that true patriotism means loving the country enough to fight for truth and justice, even when it is difficult. Through his legacy, Rizal will forever stand as a hero and inspiration to the Filipino people.

Weaving Culture, Enriching the Future: Empowering Indigenous Communities

Weaving Culture, Enriching the Future: Empowering Indigenous Communities

The celebration of the Philippines’ National Indigenous Peoples (IP) Month highlights the vital role of Indigenous Cultural Communities in nation-building. With the theme “Weaving Culture, Enriching Future: Empowering Indigenous Communities as Bedrock of Sustainable Development,” the event reminds us that indigenous knowledge, traditions, and values are not relics of the past but foundations for a sustainable future. Their deep connection to land, nature, and community offers lessons that modern society can learn from.

Indigenous peoples contribute greatly to environmental protection through traditional practices such as sustainable farming, forest conservation, and resource management. These practices help preserve biodiversity while ensuring that future generations can still benefit from natural resources. By empowering indigenous communities, the country strengthens its efforts toward sustainable development and climate resilience.
This celebration also emphasizes the importance of protecting the rights of indigenous peoples.

Through education, cultural preservation, and inclusive governance, IP communities are given opportunities to uplift their quality of life without losing their identity. Recognizing their voices ensures that development is not only progressive but also just and inclusive.
Ultimately, National IP Month is a call for unity and respect. When we honor indigenous cultures and empower their communities, we help weave a future that is rich in heritage, balanced in progress, and rooted in sustainability.

Celebration of the Christmas Season in its Essence

Celebration of the Christmas Season in its Essence

The Christmas season is more than a time of lights, decorations and presents. It is a time that brings people joy, humanity and remembrance of faith. The holiday itself was created to honor the birth of Jesus Christ, the embodiment of hope, humility and devout love for oneself and others. In such a capacity, it encourages people to consider who they've become and how they'd like to live moving forward.

The Christmas season in the Philippines involves great family ties and much religious devotion. The same can be said through any culture that celebrates this time of year. From attending Christmas Eve mass to preparing specialty meals to spending time in communion with extended family, the essence of Christmas is not enjoying all that one has, but instead, sharing the little things with others and appreciating what has been given. This includes blessings, forgiveness, and time with those too busy to enjoy a peaceful day together.

Furthermore, the Christmas season urges humanity and kindness toward others, especially those less fortunate. Through simple things like giving presents to small children or more elaborate things like donating clothes and food to shelters for those in need or throwing a community charity drive to help raise money for bus fare to get back home after the holidays, simple human actions embody the spirit of Christmas as if it's come alive in one's own life.

Therefore, through giving, living selflessly and appreciating those around us namely people we've taken for granted in our busy lives this is what it means to celebrate Christmas in its true essence, for peace and love and caring for others.

National Childrens Month

The theme for National Children's Month 2025 is OSAEC-CSAEM Wakasan: Kaligtasan at Karapatan ng Bata, Ipaglaban! This theme opens a national awareness dialogue on how online sexual abuse and exploitation of children (OSAEC and CSAEM) is a crime of the new generation, and in turn, in an increasingly digitized world, children are exposed to more online threats that challenge their security, dignity and future. Furthermore, the theme reminds us that as families and as communities and the nation, we are all responsible for protecting the youth against this increasing trend, and this protection is required by law.

At the same time that online exploitation evolves faster than ever, the government has yet to implement a stronger safeguard for the youth through increased policies, systematic surveillance and national awareness at the hands of the law. Agencies like the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), and the Philippine National Police - Women and Children Protection Center (PNP-WCPC) aim to ensure that offenders are caught, sites used for OSAEC or CSAEM are shut down and victims are given proper recourse by ensuring safe spaces for dignity and human rights at all times. But these laws are meaningless without sustained engagement from all sectors.
Thus, more than law is needed to stop OSAEC and CSAEM but parental guidance on responsible internet use; teacher instruction on appropriate online forums; community collaboration for better response and reporting. Only when all sectors come together - from moms and dads to educators to local communities to tech spaces - can a safe and supported learning area emerge for children who want to explore their lives online.

Thus, the theme for 2025 calls everyone to collaborate in upholding every child's rights. Awareness is the stepping stone for a safe future for Filipinos but creating a safe space online is akin to any proactive endeavor of a good digital citizen. Protecting children this month isn't enough; it's a year's long crusade for the nation.

Elpidio Quirino

Elpidio Rivera Quirino was the sixth President of the Philippines, serving from 1948 to 1953. Born on November 16, 1890, in Vigan, Ilocos Sur, Quirino's early life was marked by perseverance and academic pursuit. He completed his elementary education in his hometown and later studied at the Vigan High School. He then moved to Manila to continue his studies, earning his law degree from the University of the Philippines College of Law in 1915. He practiced law for a period before entering public service, driven by a desire to contribute to his nascent nation.
Quirino's political career began in earnest when he was elected as a representative of Ilocos Sur's 1st district to the Philippine House of Representatives in 1919. He served in the House until 1925, after which he was elected to the Philippine Senate, representing the First Senatorial District. During his time in the legislature, he proved to be a dedicated and capable lawmaker. He was also a member of the Philippine Independence mission to Washington D.C., which secured the passage of the Tydings-McDuffie Act, paving the way for the Philippines' independence. During the Second World War, he endured the horrors of Japanese occupation, losing his wife and three of his children.
After the war, Quirino played a crucial role in the reconstruction of the Philippines. He served as Vice President under President Manuel Roxas, also holding the position of Secretary of Foreign Affairs. Upon President Roxas's sudden death in 1948, Quirino assumed the presidency.

As president, Quirino faced the daunting task of rebuilding a war-torn nation and establishing a stable government amidst rising Cold War tensions. His administration focused on several key areas, including economic reconstruction, social welfare, and rural development. He implemented economic programs aimed at industrialization and agricultural growth, and his administration established the Integrity Board to combat corruption. He also spearheaded efforts to normalize relations with Japan and secure war reparations. One of his significant foreign policy achievements was the establishment of the Pacific Union, a precursor to the Southeast Asia Treaty Organization (SEATO), which aimed to foster regional cooperation and security.
Despite facing numerous challenges, including the Hukbalahap rebellion and persistent economic difficulties, Quirino's presidency laid important groundwork for the Philippines' post-war recovery and its role in the international community. His commitment to democratic principles and his efforts to promote peace and development in the region remain a significant part of his legacy.

Thematic Quarter 2

Discovering Vigan City: A Journey Through Time and Culture

Vigan City, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Ilocos Sur, is a treasure trove of history, culture, and tradition. Its streets and landmarks reflect a deep connection to the past, blending Spanish colonial influence with the enduring spirit of the Ilocano people. Among the city’s most notable spots are Calle Crisologo, Simbaan a Batti, and the Burnay Pottery, each offering a unique glimpse into Vigan’s heritage.

Calle Crisologo is the most iconic street in Vigan. Its cobblestone pathway lined with preserved ancestral houses takes visitors back to the Spanish colonial period. The gentle sound of horse drawn kalesas and the warm glow of antique lamps make the place truly enchanting, especially at night. Tourists often enjoy shopping for souvenirs, tasting empanada, and simply soaking in the atmosphere of the old city.

Located a bit farther from the bustling Calle Crisologo, Simbaan a Batti is a small yet meaningful church known for its quiet and peaceful surroundings. Unlike the larger cathedrals, this simple stone church captures the humble devotion of the local community. Its traditional architecture, with thick walls made of brick and stone, stands as a reminder of Vigan’s deep rooted faith and craftsmanship. Many visitors stop by to pray, reflect, or simply admire its historic charm.
Another must visit in Vigan is the Burnay Pottery, where the famous burnay jars are crafted. Watching skilled potters mold clay on their wheels is a captivating sight that showcases the artistry passed down through generations. Visitors can even try shaping their own jar, a fun way to connect with the city’s creative traditions. Each burnay symbolizes the resilience and hard work of the Ilocanos.

From the timeless elegance of Calle Crisologo to the quiet grace of Simbaan a Batti and the artistic soul of the Burnay Pottery, Vigan City offers a journey like no other. It is a place where the past lives on through every brick, jar, and prayer, inviting everyone to slow down and appreciate the beauty of history.

Reflection

In the second quarter, I learned about HTML tags, which are the building blocks of a website. At first, I thought making a webpage was complicated and only for professional programmers, but as our lessons continued, I realized that HTML is actually easy to understand once you learn the basic tags. Each tag has its own function, like creating titles, paragraphs, links, and images. I discovered how every tag works together to form the structure of a webpage, just like how sentences and paragraphs form an essay.

Learning HTML taught me to be more careful and organized when coding, because even a small mistake like forgetting a closing tag can affect the whole output. It also helped me appreciate how websites are made and how much effort goes into designing something we see every day on the internet. I enjoyed creating my own simple webpage and seeing it come to life through the codes I typed.

Overall, this quarter made me more interested in web design and programming. HTML may look simple, but it is a powerful tool that opens doors to creativity and digital skills. I’m proud of what I’ve learned and excited to explore more about web development in the next quarters.

Teachers day

The 2025 Teacher’s Month Celebration is a special time to recognize the tireless efforts, sacrifices, and love that teachers give in shaping the future of every learner. Teachers are not only educators but also role models and second parents who guide us toward success. They play a heroic role in our lives by giving their time, patience, and wisdom to help us reach our dreams.

I express my gratitude and respect to my teachers by showing good behavior, studying hard, and applying the lessons they have taught me. Simple gestures such as greeting them with respect, saying “thank you,” and participating actively in class are my ways of showing appreciation. I also make sure to acknowledge their hard work during Teacher’s Day by writing messages or giving simple tokens of appreciation.

Teachers truly deserve to be called heroes because their influence lasts a lifetime. Their passion and dedication to teaching inspire students like me to become better individuals. Without teachers, no profession would exist because they are the foundation of every learner’s knowledge and character. As we celebrate this special occasion, I want to say thank you to all teachers for being the guiding light that helps us achieve our goals.

Science Month

The 2025 celebration falls at a moment when science and innovation are not just tools, but indispensable drivers of national development and global progress. In the Philippines, the National Science Club Month is officially recognized to galvanize interest in science, technology, and innovation among students and communities.

Looking ahead to the coming decades, science and society will become ever more intertwined. Emerging trends in artificial intelligence, biotechnology, materials science, energy storage, and climate modeling are already reshaping how we live, work, and confront existential risks. The role of science will no longer be confined to laboratories or academic journals; it must be integrated into policy, education, public discourse, and ethics. Scientists will have to engage more directly with communities, co-design solutions, and communicate uncertainties responsibly. In this light, the “unknown” is not a barrier, but an opportunity for society to participate in shaping direction.

In the decades to come, the relationship between science and society will demand deeper trust, inclusion, and reflexivity. The public must be empowered to ask critical questions of science, rather than accept it uncritically. Transparent governance, citizen science, and equitable access to knowledge will be essential to prevent inequalities in who benefits from innovation. Moreover, science must be human-centered: innovations must be aligned with social values, ecological limits, and cultural diversity.

In sum, the 2025 National Science Month theme is timely and aspirational. It reminds us that as we peer into uncharted frontiers, we must carry society with us ensuring that innovation uplifts all, respects limits, and remains transparent. The coming decades will test how well we bridge the frontier of the unknown with the foundational needs of communities, and how science becomes a partner, not a separate realm, in shaping the future.

Climate Change

Climate Change and the Resiliency of Filipinos

Climate change has become one of the most pressing issues affecting the Philippines, a country highly vulnerable to natural disasters such as typhoons, floods, and droughts. Sudden changes in weather patterns, such as stronger typhoons and heavier rainfall, often destroy homes, crops, and livelihoods in a matter of hours. On the other hand, progressive environmental changes like rising sea levels and increasing temperatures gradually worsen living conditions, particularly in coastal and farming communities. These environmental shifts threaten food security, health, and economic stability, making climate change a constant challenge in the lives of many Filipinos.

The predominant reasons behind these changes are linked to human activities that increase greenhouse gas emissions. The burning of fossil fuels, deforestation, and unsustainable land use contribute heavily to global warming. In the Philippines, rapid urbanization and improper waste management also worsen the effects of climate change. While these problems are global in scale, Filipinos feel their local impacts intensely because the country lies along the Pacific typhoon belt and the “Ring of Fire,” making it prone to both climate-related and geological hazards.

Despite these adversities, Filipinos have consistently shown resilience. Communities rebuild after devastating typhoons, farmers adapt by exploring climate-smart agriculture, and individuals participate in coastal cleanups and reforestation projects. This resilience is fueled by a strong sense of bayanihan, or communal unity, which helps people recover faster together. However, true resilience requires more than coping—it demands proactive measures. Investing in renewable energy, enforcing stricter environmental laws, and educating citizens about sustainability are necessary to lessen the long-term effects of climate change.

In conclusion, while the Philippines faces both sudden and progressive changes in the environment due to climate change, the resiliency of its people remains one of its strongest assets. With combined efforts from individuals, communities, and the government, the country can move beyond mere survival and build a more sustainable and climate-resilient future.

Intramurals

Watching the Spirit of Sports in Intramurals

Intramurals is one of the most awaited events in our school. It is a time when students set aside their usual classroom routines and come together to celebrate sportsmanship, teamwork, and school spirit. As a spectator, I had the opportunity to watch my fellow students compete in different games, and it was an experience that taught me valuable lessons beyond just the excitement of the matches.

Watching the athletes play made me realize how much effort they put into training and preparing for the games. I saw their determination in every serve, every shot, and every sprint. Their energy was contagious, and the crowd cheered with pride and support. Even though I was not playing on the court, I felt involved in the moment, as if I was part of their journey.

More than the scores and trophies, what struck me most was the sportsmanship displayed. Players congratulated one another, even after losing a match. Teams encouraged their members, reminding me that winning is important, but character and respect are greater victories. These moments showed that intramurals is not just about competition—it is about unity and building friendships.

As a student in the audience, I also learned to appreciate the talents of my schoolmates. Each game revealed hidden skills that I never knew they had. It was inspiring to see how they shined outside the classroom, proving that every student has strengths worth celebrating.

In the end, watching the intramurals gave me a deeper appreciation of school life. It reminded me that education is not only about academics but also about experiences that shape us to be well-rounded individuals. The event brought us closer as a community, and I am grateful to have witnessed the passion and teamwork of my fellow students.

Heed our Environments Call

The imagine portraits the problem of using too much single use plastics, improper segregation, and the lack of proper disposal of garbage. This problems can be addressed by just doing simple things like segregating garbage, using reusable bags, holding onto our garbage until there's a proper place to dispose the garbage, and teaching our family and friends.

Simple segregation can help in addressing this huge problem. By just simply separating our garbage we can get a cleaner and more organized surrounding.

The use of reusable bags can contribute to many things like lesser plastic waste, lesser pollution, and lesser floods. Plastic contribute to the clogging of many drainage systems which contribute to the higher frequency of flooding in cities.

A great habit to have is when you are outside with family or friends you carry a small garbage bag and for example you guy's bought food and went to eat at a near by park or any appealing public place and after you're done eating there are no trash cans you can then use the garbage bag to hold onto the waste and dispose it in a proper disposal bin. This not only help the environment this can also help the people this simple thing can lessen the amount of garbage around the environment and lessening the effects of garbage to our health.

Then there is the best way to help the environment. Teaching our family and friends just by doing this it can lessen environmental problems significantly.

My First Quarter Journey

I have learned to be more responsible and disciplined in my studies. I also discovered new skills, especially in teamwork and communication, which helped me grow as a student. Most importantly, I realized the value of self-confidence and believing in my own abilities.

Some of the challenges I faced during the first quarter were time management, coping with difficult lessons, and balancing school tasks with personal responsibilities. There were also times when I struggled with motivation and confidence.

I addressed these challenges by studying more consistently, asking help from my teachers and classmates, and staying determined even when things were difficult. I also learned to manage my time better and stay focused on my goals.

Moving on, I will continue to improve my study habits, participate actively in class, and work harder to achieve my goals. I will also keep a positive mindset and be more open to learning from my mistakes. With these, I hope to become a better version of myself in the coming quarters.
